POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Pohangina County Council was held on Saturday. Present: Councillors R. W. Browne (chairman), G. F. Smith, A. 'Wagstv;/ H. Burne, B. C. Eglinton, D. ' E. Port. . '
Mr. D. G. Guthrie, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Minister for Public, Works regretting that the subsidy for the Pohangina bridge could not be increased. Mr. Guthrie suggested tho council should make a direct application to tho Government, and ask that the matter be reconsidered, and it was decided to adopt this course. .
The treasurer's and engineer's reports were read and adopted. Mr. D. Sinclair reported that .work on Parson's Ford bridge was progressing satisfactorily. The two main piers had been ■ completed, and this removed any danger of loss from floods. The following resolutions were passed: That a sum of £20 be donated to the Pohangina Domain Board; that the lease of reserve No. 150, Apiti, be transferred from R. A. Dick to P. Elliott; that the engineer call separate tenders for fencing portions of Main Valley Road, Beehive Hill, and Cowan's Hill; that school children be not allowed to graze horses on the county road at Table Flat; that the Health Department be asked to furnish particulars of account for salary of inspector, as the council has not been, aware of any inspector for the past year; that an application bo made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for a grant of .£lO towards fencing the municipal reserve, along Jtain Valley Road; that .£lO be spent in repairs of Moa Street, Pohaiigina township. The tender of Gardener and Grammar, for metalling Ashhurst-Pohangina Road, at .£66 55., was accepted.
