Sir Sm're Smith (an authority- on technical education), speaking at a Free-trade meeting in London, said that Germany imported yarn on an almost' Free-trade basis, and gave more employment to Yorkshire ■mills than did the rest of the world put together. In many respcets, he said, Britainwas gaining moro from the' growth 'if Gorman trade than was Germany Herself. ' The British wiooj industry nad never given fuller Homo employment, paid higher wages, or enjoyed higher credit than at present.
