SCOUT JOTTINUS.
(By "Alert,")
The question of Sunday scouting came up for discussion at the Scoutmasters' meeting on Tuesday evening. Tho opinion of the members present was firmly against the practice. District Commander A. H. Herbert, of Eketahuna, has left on a trip to England. His duties aro being undertaken by Mr. P. M. Cameron. Button-hole badges have been on order for some time., .They should como to hand shortly. There is a suggestion afoot to send a patrol of Boy Scouts from New Zealand to Australia in some nionths' time. The' Boy Scout authorities in the States will givo a cordial welcome. It is thought that lads should compete for places in tho patrol. In England a number of Scouts are to go to Canada in August. Entries are confined to first-class Scouts, and the competition is upon Scout knowledge. Some good Scout practice was indulged in at Lyall Bay last Saturday. Transmitting of messages by word of mouth created much interest. Thero is to be a Scout entertainment in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Juno 25. Competitions open to all Scouts will be held in signalling, hut-building, bugling, first-aid and knotting. There will also be a programme of musical items. The Kilbirnie troop have now obtained the uso of tho shed on the Kilbirnie Reserve and last night they used it for the firstf time. On Saturday last the troop did some dispatch running with the Newtown patrols on the slopes of Mount Victoria.
