• «- (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Palmsrston North, June It). Loyal Mar.awatu Lodge of Oddfellows held a special summoned meeting last night, when nominations of officers for the ensuing term were rer ceived. The election will take place next lodge night. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs. Macintiro and family on the death of the late Dr. Macintire, who was formerly lodge doctor. A paternal visit was' paid by two members of the Order from England, and they received a hearty welcome from V.(j. Bro. W. Wilsher. Bro. F. W. Pettitt presided over tho meeting. ■The catch-as-catch-can wrestling match which has been arranged .to take place here on June 16 between R. J. Scott, of Stratford, and Gordon Smith, of Pahiatua, is creating a considerable amount of interest. Voung Smith is said to have improved very greatly since he drew with Scott at tho Caledonian Society's gathering at Palmerston last Easter Monday, and is expected to give-tho champion tho "go" of his life on the 16th.

Orange Ledge, No. IS, held its monthly meeting last night, when there ivas a good attendance, and tho AV.M. Bro. 11. Jackson . occupied , the chair. The Lodge decided to hold the annual church service 011 July 10 at tho Sal-/ vation Army barracks, these having been kindly placed at the disposal of the Lodge by Adjutant Hayward, when addresses .will be given by prominent speakers. The llev. AV. L>. More, who is about to pay a visit to Australia,' was requested to convey fraternal greeting to any lodges he might visit while 111 tho Commonwealth. Lodge Levin intimated that a number- of members would attend the degree meeting to bo held rioxt week. After a considerable amount of routine business had boon transacted, the meeting closed with the singing of tho National Anthem. .

Minister , in chargo of Native lands, to liav'o' power to sell all Native re"-' serves within the limits •of citics and boroughs and invest the. money obtained on behalf of the owners or, as an alternative, that the Public Trust-ee or Minister in charge bp directed to road tho said lands in accordance with tlio by-laws, and. let tho frontages on long renewable leases.

A rather lively passage at arms took place in the Palmcrston Police Court to-day, which- was presided over by Justices. Counsel for a man who was convicted on a charge of theft heatedly addressed the Bench, and said the conviction was a gross miscarriage of justice, showing incompetency on the part of the court when they entered up a conviction on such, evidence. Tile solicitor was promptly called upon to withdraw the remark, but he retorted that ho had nothing to withdraw, and went on to say that it was not the first time similar remarks had been given expression to, as other counsel had' at times found it necessary to point out the extraordinary judgments delivered by justices in this court in tho Supreme Court.
