"WOMAN AND WINE." There was again a large attendance at the Opera last night, when the Mamilum-Maxwcll Drain.'!tic Company repeated the thrilling melodrama entitled "Woman and Wine." It is not surprising that the piece should bo so popular, 1 lor it abounds in exciting scenes and situations, which are well enacted, and, in addition, Ihe scenery and other accessories are unusually line. Miss Beatrice Jiullowny, Miss Nellie Strong, Miss Muriel Dale, and Messrs. M. Maxwell, Godfrey L'r.ss, Chas. Brown, oiirl Sydiuy do Vine lake the principal parts. Those who have not yet xjen "Woman and Wine" should note that the final performance takes place this evening. To-morrow (Thursday) night. and for four nights only, a drama from the pan of George R. Sims and Arthur Shirley will be staged, entitled "In London Town." The J3r>x Plans will be at Holiday's this morning, and at the theatre this afternoon. FULLER'S VAUDEVILLE COMPANY. Patrons of vaudeville aro being well catered for at the Theatre Royal this week. In his clover imitations of various well-known singers and actors, Mr. Garden Wilson was again highly successful last night. "Athos," the roller-skating dude, did numerous feats with .characteristic grncefulnesa, Oihci items worthy of special mention included the selections by the "Musicnl Shirleys" on sleigh bells, etc. Miss Pearl Hellmrich, a dainty soubrette, Miss Ivy Leslie, a talented serio, Mr. Warwick Lnmley, a versatile comedian, the Martin Sisters in their pretty songs and dances, and Mr. - Fred JJarcourt, with his delightful ballads, also contributed to the enjoyable programme. The ijiograph films this week are also full of interest. Other performances will bo given nightly. HIS MAJESTY'S PICTURES. There, was the usual large attendance at His Majesty's Theatre last .evening, when the splendid programme presented was very well received. To-night is the weekly chango night. The new collection is said to be a .particularly strong . one. The list is headed by a lin& film entitled "Tommy Atkins," being an adaptation of the great military drama of that, name, by Arthur Shirley. The story is centred round "the fighting parson," Harold Wilson, who leaves the Church to enter the Army. The story teems with exciting incidents, and should prove very popular with all lovers of the sensational. • "Ranson's Folly" is the story of the central figure in Richard Harding Davis's great novel, and is a film guaranteed to rivet the attention of the audicnce. "The Miniature/' a par- v ticularly good Edison film, specially depicts the story of a little-known incident in the life of President Jackson. ■ The
"Girls of the Ranch" is an exciting "Western drama, and other notable items are
"The Roman Garcia Troupe' 1 and "The Stockholm Canals." The comics arc a specially strong collection.
KING'S TITBATRE. Tho excellent programmo of pictures which has been running all the 1 week was repeated at the King's Theatre last evening for tho last time. There was a large attendance, and the varied 'rjliivtion of. scenic, dramatic, and humoroirs—was received'with every mark oi appreciation. To-night an entirely now programme will be presented, which it is said will not be inferior to any yec seen in attractiveness. STAR PICTURES; A bright and highly interesting bill of fare is being, provided at St. Thomas's Hall this week-by tho Star Pictures, and w-eH-fUled houses arc rewarding tho promoters. The management'of tho Skating Rinlc have reason to congratulate themselves on the improvements which they have effected in tho iUior'.aml other aids to skating at tho rink. A very strong programme is being arranged by Mr. Horace Hunt and Mr. Herbert J3loy for performance at their piano and violin recital in f.ho Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall -on Thursday, Juno IC. A selection of tho finest works extant for the respective instruments will be presented, and the concert promises to be one of more than usual excellence. Mr. HUnt's numbers will include Beethoven's well-known and popular,'' Sonata Patheiiriue"; Chopin's hauntingl.y beautiful "Ballade ill A flat"; Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C sharp Minor," an item full of barbaric splendoiir; and Schumann's "in Der Nacht," a magnificent example 6f the music of the romantic school, portraying the story of Hero and Lenuder. Mr. Blov, whose violin solo work made a great impression upon Auckland audiences, will play the Andante and Finale from the Mendelssohn Concerto; the great "Fanlasia Appassionala"," by Vieuxtcmps; and the famous "Devil's Trill," by Tartini, a wonderful work, making severe demands upon the capabilities of a performer. The concert will also be the occasion of the first public appearance of Miss Agnes M. Segrief, a talented and promising" locallytrained vocalist.
A grand social and danco will );e held in O'Donnell's Hall, Kilbirnie, to-night at 8 o'clock. Tickets are 2s. each, and cover refreshments. Prootwls of tlie social nro in aid of the Church and School Fund. <
A grand entertainment given by the Mnscotte Picture Company, in aid of the Fetone High Schcol funds! will be held in the High School on Thursday and Friday next.
