In consequence of the death .of his Majesty King Edward, the committee of the Palmerston Naval and Military Tournament has decided to postpono this year's tournament from and U "till December 31 anil January 2 next.
v Lieut.-Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Officer Commanding tho Wellington Garrison Artillery Division, with Major Courtney and Captain Mickle .(Adjutant of the division), paid a visit of inspection to the I'otone Navals at Fort Kelburne, Ngahauranga, last evening.
Coming ovents at the Wellington Garrison Non-commissioned Officers' Club included euehra party on June 16, and Captain J. E. Duigan's lecture on "Tho American Civil War," to be given on July 1. Tho last lecture, by Captain G. S. llichardson, who spoke on the subject of tho organisation of . the British Territorial Army, was a very popular one, and the lecturer was invited to deliver imother lecture at an early date.
Roplylng to a letter of farewell which was addressed to his Excellency the Governor (Lord Plunket), by tho Wellington Garrison Officers' Club, Captain Shannon, A.D.C., writing to Captain S. V. Trask (secretary of the club), "conveys his Excellency's sincere thanks .for the kind message of farewell sent by the committee of the Officers' Club," and "his best wishes for the continued success of your valuable Institution." BOY SCOUTS. For tho information of inspectors and scoutmasters the Dominion Chief Scout {Lieutenant-Colonel Cosgrovc) announces that the tests for the proficiency badges' for boy scouts will in future be those detailed in "Scouting for Boys" (latest edition). Scoutmasters may take tho "Tenderfoot" and tho "second-elass" examinations, but "first-class" tests must bo taken by commissioned inspectors. Badges of merit can be won by seconsclass scouts, and tho examinations may ho held by specially qualified persons appointed by a district committee or by a commissioner in districts whero no committee exists.
The following circular memorandum has been addressed to J-lio officers of tlio Boy Scout Organisation by LieutenantColonel Cosgrove, V.D.:—'"Those officers who desiro to have their patrols, troops, or battalions recognised under Regulation 101 of the New Cadet Regulations, should, until further notice, apply direct to the officer commanding the junior cadets, Wellington; It is Tecommontled that scoutmasters should volunteer foT service with their units, so that they may have them under their, control at all times.' It is further suggested t.hait all patrols should consist of eight boys in future, in order that the drill of both branches of cadets may be tlio same. Officers who do not wish to join tho Boy Scout branch of t.hc junior cadets may retain command of their patrols or troops as heretofore without any interference from tlio Minister for EducaI tion."
