FROZEN MEAT RATES.

A RISE IN AUSTRALIA. By Teiegrapn-Presa Association— Copyright Melbourne, May 25. Shipping agents have decided to increase freight rates on frozen meat to five-eighths of a penny per pound from August next. NOT LIKELY TO AFFECT NEW ZEALAND. Shipping authorities state that the decision of shipping companies trading between London and Australia to increase the freight rates on frozen meat to -Jd. per lb. is not likely to affect the rates from this Dominion. In Australia tho freight rates aro largely determined by supply and demand, and at the present time there is a material shortage of tonnage having refrigerated cargo space, owing to the splendid season and the abundance of meat cargo offering. The New Zealand rates are fixed by contract for a special term, the rates from December to May being fixed higher than the rates for the remainder of the year, during which there is a shortage of cargo.
