Coradine) occupying th chair. The council, alter passing a re ? solution, touching the death of Kin Edward, adjourned for a quarter of a: e hour. On resuming, the report of the Work and Finance Committee, with tho esti unites for the year, was brought down anil approved, Councillor Hoar raisin; an objection to the proposals regarilinj septic tanks. The report stated that in special rate would be required for drain age, gas, or abattoirs. The town clerk presented a length; special report on the drainage of th J borough, and it was decided to hold ; [ special meeting of the council to con J suler the same. Other councillors expressed themselves similarly, and the Mayor undertook tc get information from Tedding and elsewhen. Jt was resolved to procure a shop irom Ihe Trust Lands Trust as a show-room for gas-fittings, etc. In discussing the estimates, Councillor Temple expressed the opinion that from the allocated for road maintenance, at least .£3OO ,or JMOO should he set aside for tarring and asphalting footpaths. The Mayor agreed with Councillor Temple, and it was decided to defer the matter for consideration.
