Templars held their anniversary "social" ; ■ in the Victoria Street Hall, Petone, last ; ' evening.- There was a crowded house, and a very successful meeting resulted. Bro. T. Townsend, G.E.S.i presided,. and dur. ing the evening spoke a few words on . ■ the Good Templar Order—the largest : , temperance society in the world. The • programme was as follows;— Pianoforte. , solo, Air. P. Jowett; songs, Mr. J. Chamberlain, Miss S. Brierley; duet, Misses R: and M. Millward; 'cello solo, Mr. Norman Martin; Highland Fling, Misa | Daisy M'Lellan (piper, Mr. J. Findlayjj recitation 1 , Mr. Allen; songs, Mr. Carson, '. Mr. Stevens; sword . dance, : Mis M'Lellan; songs, Mr. A. Wright and Miss . Pompey; umbrella drill, Misses H. Wood and Udy, arranged by the. Misses Braddeck, in which the following took part: Misses A. Pickering, L. Taylor, M. Hac- . hett, E. Finch, J. Dnmford, B. Davis, 1 D. Nicholls, and E, Percy. Other -musi. s cal items were contributed by the fol« lowing:—Mr. Martin, Mr. D. Robinson, 1 Misses Tomfrev, Babbinsrton, and Elbor ; (2), Mr. Kaye.Miss E. Mil ward, Mr. W.: , M'Bwan, Miss E. Sciness, and P. Jowett. , After refreshments the performance con. t ( cluded with a laughable farce, in which' the parts were creditably sustained- bj members. I At the last meeting of the committee, ' which is making the necessary arrange- ■ ments for Dr.- Henry's mission at Pe- '■ tone, the representatives from the varw ous churches were received. Subcommit- ' I tees, were set up to arrange details of - . music, finance, and advertising. It wag resolved to hold a series of special prayer meetings in the churches, and if possibl< in cottages. A meeting of householders of Lowea '" Hntt will be held shortly for the purposs " of • discussing the high school question. '' The members of the Petone Junior '; Club intend to hold a 'ladies' night" ' next Friday. . At.the Petone Police Court yesterday, ' before Messrs. W. Inglis and K. Mothes, ' J.P.'s, Thomas Jenkins was brought up on charges of drunkenness and of resist- ■ - ing the police in the execution of their <" duty- 0 n the first charge he was con- : victcd and discharged, and on the second • was fined' 10s. ; i The Hutt Football • Club's smoke concert held in the local Town Hall last - - night was fairly well attended. The object of the function was r to farewell Mr, '. J. Badgers, who has received an appointment on the Upper Hutt School teaching' • staff. During the evening Mr. M. Hod- , gins, on behalf of the Football Club, in presenting Mr. Rodgers with a handsome set of pipes, spoke in complimentary terms of the work done by the guest of " the evening, and wished him every pjo- ' sperity in his new sphere.
