Tho keel of a 26,000-ton Dreadnoughtcruiser, the Princess Royal, - has been laid at the works of Messrs. Vickers Maxim and Co., at Barrow. The vessel will be 700 ft. long, will carry eiglit 12in. guns, and will bave a contract speed of thirty knots.

The above details, with the exception of the length, appeared in tho London papers in March. The Princess' Royal cruiser is one of the four '"extra" Dreadnoughts. The ether three are battleships. The "Daily Mail" says: The names of the new Dreadnoughts, their displacements, and the firms to whom the contracts for them haye been' awarded are as follow:

Royal ... 26,350 Cruiser Vickers The three battleships will each carry ten 12-in. guns, mounted in the centre line, and mil steam twenty-one knots. The Princess .Royal will carry eight 12-in. guns mounted in the centre line of the ship, and will have engines of 70,000 horse power, propelling her at a speed of about thirty knots. The cost of the four ships with armament will be eight millions. AUSTRALIAN NAVAL DRAFT. London, May 2. The Australian ijaval draft, which is to attend torpedo, gunnery, and signalling classes, was heartily welcomed at Portsmouth barracks. British bluejackets were granted special leave to show the Australians the sights.
