COUNTY ROLL FRAUDS. (By TelcsriDh.-SDecial CorresDondent.l Wanganui, May 2. A poll of Waverley ratepayers on the proposed erection of municipal buildings resulted in tho proposal being carried by 98 votes to 15.. Customs duties collected at Wanganui for April totalled .£SBIB 11s. Bd., as against £SS3S lCs. 2d. for April last year. In addition .£303 was collected in'beor duty, as against .£3OO for tho same month last year.

In response to a circular from tho Wostlana County Council, pointing out instancos of alleged fraud and misrepresentation in compiling county rolls, the Waitotara County Council passed a resolution to-day sympathising with the Wostland Council's efforts to effect a change in the law relating thereto. The chairman remarked that the Waitotara Council had never had any troubln in tho direction indicated,'but, ho thought that it should support the Westland County Council in its efforts to. have its grievances remedied.

At a meeting of tho .council of the Chamber of Commerce this morning, it was decided to write to . the other chambers interested regarding differential and long-distance freights on railways, notifying them that, the matter would be placed before the Minister for Railways on his visit to Wanganui in the course of a week or two. It was also decided to writo lo the Taihape Chamber, to the effect that flio local chamber would bo pleased to support it in its application for an alteration in tho time-table. . •

A meeting.of the parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church was held yesterday, to consider the building , , scheme. Father O'Hhca, Vicar-General, explained that a now church presbytery and convent would be required, the latter being a most urgent requirement- A committee of ten was elected with power to e«', and these will now consider plans prepared by Mr. J. S. Swan, of Wellington.
