AN INSURANCE PRESENTATION
MR. C. M. MONTEFIORE'S TRIP.i
The officers of the Ocean Accident arid Guarantee Corporation, Ltd., throughout Now Zealand made a presentation yesterday to their general manager, Mr.'C. U. Montefiore, who leaves on Friday on a businoss visit to England. The Hons. J. Carroll and J. A. Millar were among those present.
■ Mr. H. N. Liardet, Wellington manager, who will be acting-general manager in. Air. Montefioro's absence, emphasised the constant courtesy and kindness of tho guest, who, ho said, had not been Homo for 32 years, and thoroughly deserved a more prolonged trip than "he was taking. Mr. C. 1). Rogers, Auckland district manager of the accident branch, as the oldest officer of- thn corporation present, presented Mr. Montefioro with a gold watch, suitably inscribed..
The 'Hon. James Carrott said tnat Mt. Montefiore had taken a lease in perpetuity of tho affection of all thosG who knew him. Referring to the cordial relations between Mr. Montcfioro and his staff, Mr. Carroll said:
Lovo is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove; 0 no; it is an ever-fixed mark That looks on tempests, and is never shaken. ■ .
Mr. Carroll went on -to say that Mr. Montefioro possessed a combination of qualities granted to very few. On his visit Homo Mr. Montellore would be entrusteil with high and mighty matters which might have a public portent in tho future, but lie was sure that this country would not lose any advantage by having entrusted such matters to his hands. Mr. J. Bowden, Dunediu manager, epoko of the courtesy, strict discipline, hard-hitting, and kindness of tho guest, who wns also to his mind pre-eminent for his powers of concentration and decision. Air. C.-R. Palmer, manager of tho fire department, Auckland, Mr. G. Ravonhill, manager at Thames, Mr. W. H. Short, manager at Petone, and Mr. Neil M'Lean also spoke.
The Hon. J. A. Millar emphasised the ..general manager's humanitarian attitude towards ' his staff. Between the Ocean Corporation and the Government Accident branch there- had been some slight community of interest, perhaps not to the extent there might, have been, but they had worked pretty well in harmony, and not been in opposition to any great extent He thoueht that at Home Mr. Montefioro would bo taught "scientific adjustment of rates," which would mean an increase of profits to the company and a decrease of the purchasing power of the people of New Zealand. He was , leavine New Zealand with very . few, if any, enemies.
Mr. Montefiore, in returning thanks, said that no man in New Zealand had over Jiad a more loyal staff. Over .£200,000 had been paid away in claims during his period of office.
The health of Mr. Montefiore, his wife, and family was drunk with acclamations.
