(By Taleenph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, April 29. Very little interest was taken .at Gonrille yesterday ;in connection' with the poll on the Town Board's proposal to raise a loan of £10,000 for the extension of the water and drainage systems. The poll was decidedly on the small side, but a substantial majority voted in favour of the'proposals. Football cup matches begin to-mor-row. Tho inquest touching the death of the late Michael H'Grath, railway fireman, who was killed at Fordell last night, was opened this morning, \ and adjourned till to-morrow. 'The body of deceased is being taken to Napier for interment. i • Preparations for the bazaar which is being organised for the purpose of raising funds for sending, the. Wanganui Garrison Band to the Ballarat contest are now in full swing, and, last eveningj a largely-attended ladies', meeting was held, whon a strong committee was set up to arrange for the furnishing of the stalls.
