WAIRARAPA DEER HERDS.
Sir,—l am vety glad to learn from Mr. Senior's fetter, in your issue of yesterday, that his sympathies are'with the .Anrrlimatii patio" Society in iia work, and am sore that the council of tho society will he only too willing to take advantage of his advice and assistance. I regret that I unintentionally did hkn an injustice in asnnniing that ha . had adversely criticised the society's methods wjthoot affording Its officers an opportunity of being heard. 1 now learn that although Mr. Senior did not approach the executive of the present council in the matter, and wo knew nothing-about it, he did discuss it with tho chief officer of the late council, which, from Mr. Senior's point ot view, probably appeared very much the same thing. M With regard to Mr, Senior not •nor-' ing been in ClhiiEtchurch, the articlo to which.l. replied was'stated by you to'be the. result of! an inienriew with the representative of' the Christchurdi inference being' thai lihe interview took place in Christchurch, but it now- appears that the representative of the said paper ■ was in Wellington'at the time. Mr. Senior will be pleased to hear that, in addition to endeavouring to improve tho herds in the Wellington district by the importatioi of new blood from Warnham' Park and Werribee Park; the. society has successfully established new herds at Paraparaunru, Wainui. lanherinikau, and Ekebahuna, which are doing remarkably well, and as they are free from tho disabilities of doso settlement which attend the Wairarapa herd, and are able to get away into new country, it fa hoped that tho phenomenal heads obtained some years ago will again bo in'evidence when tie new herds araready for shooting. ■ -Having already given the otor side of the question, in dispute, I- do not propose to outer upon, a long oorrespondenco now, even if you would permit mo to do so, -as,-*- particularly good opportunity for ventilating the whole subject presents itself -at the 1 annual/ general meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, to be held on or about May 11, and where the fullest discussion is invited. . With regard to the letter from a inember of the Acclimatisation Society, who does not . give his name, ■ but incidentally suggests thai my arguaients will not bear the light of day, I respectfully ia-vito him to. the said meeting, where be can!turn the electric light on to them, and'where the fullest'information as to the society'a work rela-tive-to both doer and trout will be willingly afforded.—l am, etc., A. F. LOWE. April 29, 1310.
