Colonel Kirkpatrick, who'has been appointed Inspector-General of the Commonwealth Forces, has been engaged for four-years at a salary of £1500 per annum and house allowance. Melbourne, April 23. , There is considerable indignation here among military officers over the appointment of Colonel Kirkpatrick. ■ Several Labour members have expressed disapproval of the appointment, their criticism being based on tho idea that- it was arranged after the' Government knew it was defeated, and also on the objection , to the importing of an otlicar for tho post ENGLISH PRESS COMMENTS. This is natural but it is hardly logical. National pride had previously insisted that the Inspector-General should be an Australian officer, but that idea was now abandoned.
