The takings at the Apiti ,Sh6w were £96, of which sum £70 will go in prize money,''and. £11; in other expenses. Mr. Haihdcook has been, elected.president, . Mr.'.-Moyes and Mr. S. Nehnes 'captain of - the Apiti Foot-, ball Club.'
The' Circulating' Library Society pf Apiti lias elected the. following officers for tho ensuing term :-rPresideut, Mr. J. Decke;.. secretary and librarian. Miss Heldt; treasurer, Mr. A. Bennett; committee,' Dr. ■ Gregory, Messrs. Caldwell, I'urnell, and F. Elliott.
Mr. Albert -Woods, ex-instructor in plumbing at ,'tho Feilding';- Technical School, who Has gone Home to' gain experience , in plumbing and gas engineering, in the course of an ing. letter to .a Feilding_ friend, states that he finds the plumbing trade veryslack in the Old Country. He Began' work at .the South Metropolitan Sas Company's works, and adds: ''They are to. let me go through the drawing office and engine-fitters? ■ and retort house) so' .that; I will • gain,: a ■ fair experience.' Indeed, they all try to assist me, and you could not' wish to .meet a better lot of people.' They employ 2000 men whero I' am,! so'you will see that it's no small place. ' They work longer hours than we do—&i hours a day—but they do not do as much in those 9£ hours as we would do in sis. Thero.is no hurry; it's all a. matter of 'take your time.' I!do not think that they could hurry if they tried."
Mr. S. ; Steele, of - Kimbolton, has sent another, pen. of .. White Leghorn pullets to! compete at the New Zealand Utility Ciub's contest at Papanui, Christcliurch. These pullets are from the i eggs ofa • hen which : laid 252 eggs in 12 months. .
On Thursday evening the .Bongotea Horticultural Show closed, : after a very successful season. The total takings were £33 Bs. 6d., not including entry fees. - ■ • • -
Mr. Loekhead has withdrawn from the mayoral contest, tarring Counofljora Harford anil Goodbohcre to go to the poll. An active campaign is now in progress.' ' ■ • .
