THE QUEEN'S STATUE.
Sir—l am very pleased to, notico that tho City Council has resolved to remove the Queen's Statue from its nresont site, 111 the words of Councillor I'letolior, the statue "does appeal" , to me also. It is in . my view a most inharmonious production. If our late glorious Queen had been represented in effigy as she appeared on her accession to the Throne while a young woman, I feel certain that it would havo had a more. "appealing" effect, not only to those who, resident in the Dominion at the present day, remember her earlier yews, hut, also to tho younsor generation, who have been (aught and havo read of the beautiful childhood, and gentle dignity of which wo arc so proud, _
This statue is quite out of proportion, to tho'enclosod surroundings, and is more fitted for the top of a hill. The ivholo arrangement is too severe, and does riot symbolise our late. Queen in any way. It might bo a representation of "Juno" or "Minerva,"-or-even'.of "Jezebel," so far as it appeals to our historical TernombrancA of her Majesty. . I would suggest that it be broken up and remodelled. As an alternative, put it on .top of Mount Victoria as representing'the northerly and southerly breezes that.blow here in their wild strength. If not there, put it in the hospital grounds, which site would commemorate her ever-loving and humane 'qualitios.— I am, etc., LOYAL.
