AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. A special meeting of the Wellington centre of the New Zealand Amateur, Athletic Association was held at the XM.O.A. last evening to consider certain notices of motion relating to l-u'les Mr. W: Coffey presided ' ' ; Tho first matter dealt with was the following motion, in the name of Mr. \V. H. -Pollock':— "That all communications from clubs under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Centre to otyr centres shall be mado through this centre." .: Mr. Pollock asked leave to-withdraw tho motion. ' -' ' : .Mr. Stuart Robinson suggested that ■Mr. Pollock should furnish the meetving with some indication of his future intentions. .. : The chairman thought . that they wore hardly justified in asking that. ': Leave to withdraw was granted. : Mr! T. Walshe then moved: • "That the following words bo added t-i) Rule 4 (Executive): — , .. , : ■• ■'-.■■ " ■ . and provided that members of the sanie club shall: not represent more than one other club. , " The mover said that tho object of tno motion was to encourage the various clubs to take a more active interest in tho centre, to tho ond that matters under, discussion ■ would be treated from a broad.point of view. Tho motiou was seconded, and the eiiiuing discussion was more or less favourable to the principle of tho nioUou. On being -put to the vote, ten were in favour of the motion, and six against, but as tho lequired three-nfti-a majority necessary to carry an amendment of the rules was not obtained, the motion was, declared to be lost. Mr. Guise moved: "That Rule 6 (Executive) be deleted, and the following new rule inserted in lieu thereof:— 'Any representative may delegate his power of voting at any specified centre meeting on any particular subject /ir subjects to any other representative. Such substitute shall, unless limited by tho document appointing him, have ail the powers of speecli and vote possessed by the representative appointing him.'." ' Speaking to the motion, the mover said that it was sought to. prevent proxies being given to persons other than members of the centre. The New Zealand Council worked under such a system as he was advocating, and what
ivas good enough, for tho New Zealand Council was, ho contended, good enough for the' centre. It was not desirable tliafc outsiders should be allowed, as prosy-holders, to attend Meetings of. , the centre, as was possibles under the present rule. Tho motion was seconded. Mr. J. S. Pollock objected to thu proposal, as in. practice the .smaller clubs, which only sent ono representative to the centre, would suffer. It was hotter, ho considered, that a club should be represented by one of its own member*-in .thy event ot a proxy being necessary, than that its interests should bo represented by a representative, of some other club. Tho motion was carried. Mr. Fleming' Ross was unanimously elected to represent the contre on the New Zealand Council, vico Mr.' W. H. Pollock, , resigned;.
