PACKAGES ON GOODS TRAINS.
: THEIE FATE. (By Teleeraph.-Special Correspondent.) Auckland, April 22. To' secure packages by goods train from 'Wellington to Aucldand is evidently, a prolonged process. On. Thursday last, a batch, or posters and plans awaited with considerable eagerness by .6ome hundreds of intending applicants for-land in the Hauraki Plains Settlement) was placed on board a goods train leaving Wellington that day. They, have been, travelling in stages ever since, and are not expected to reach Auckland until this evening. ■"'' A "Herald" reporter learned, in the course of inquiries among business people, that many incidents of "hope deferred" occur in .connection with the service,' and, as a case in point, one firm produced a document advising the dispatch by goods train from 'Wellington on Friday last of a package of fruit, which had come from the Nelson district. -This package had not arrived last evening.
