.THE RECENT. RIVER TRAGEDY. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.). /Wanganui, April 13. ; Theydnquest on the death of the victims of the'recent boating fatality was held this morning, the evidence being practically a . recapitulation of { the . accounts already given. A,,verdict of accidentally drowned was entered, ,a ridei l being added commending (the action of \V. Mantle, the'fisherman who 60 promptly, put out to the rescue. ■.

The takings, of the,,. Corporation Baths for - the season just closed are a record; Over 100 school ohildreh and 50 adults have been taught .to swim , during the season.'' The council is considering the matter" of erecting, a water-chute at the baths. . ':' At the Borough Council's meeting last evening it was' decided to renew .about three-quarters of a mile of the gas mains with larger pipes. The council is considering a revision of its by-laws,' and will hold, a'special meeting next week to deal with the matter.
Owing to recent complaints of the excessive speed of motoivcars and bicycles the police have bean instructed to prosecute offenders. The matter of denning what constitutes "reasonable -speed", will be dealt with under the new by-laws.
