ONSLOW BOROUGH COUNCIL.
■'A TEAR OF PROGRESS. The Onslow Borough Council met last night. Present; The Mayor (Mr J. G. Harkness), Councillors W. R. Plinimor, E. S. Stafford, C. Aplin, A. Ferguson, G. W. Darvall, F. Kiernan and B. Lynneberg. .The ' engineer (Mr Clapcott) presented a report on. the.development' of the borough during the 12 months ended March 31. Tho total number of. dwellings erected during the year was 62, representing a total.value of £33,926 (including alterations, 'sheds and-, factories); Dwellings only', were divided thus'.between the wards:—Ngaio 1 - Ward, '32; Khandallah, 21; Kaiwarra, 9. The totals during the preceding year were M dwellings, value .€20,220. In spite of the severe slump in. the Wellington suburbs, there-had been rapid development in the cuttihg-up and reading of estates in. the 'borough. No fewer than 17 new. streets had been formed or metalled, and with the exception of one estate, footpaths with kerb ; and channelling had been put in. Three and. a-half miles", of .new streets ■had como under the control of the borough, representing, an outlay of .£BOOO on forming and metalling, and showing; a considerable increase oyer the previous year. s. With reference .to ..a . request - from; the Wellington Gas' Company for support in connection 'with the laying, of, mains through; the : borough; ; the council appointed, a comrnitteer. to confer,, with the managing director of the 'company. '; Te Kaianga residents -'petitioned to ■have the:'electric]ight- extended'to that locality. ■ Consideration, was deferred until the estimates- for .next; year- are dealt with.; ■:,■-, . ■ . '.: ::;.-.,\-\-- - .-, ■ - . ■ In' regard to ■ Mr. Nairn's sub-division, it. was resolved to .inform' him that the council (had' been advised that it was hot. liable-to.pay, him compensation, and to invite him to furnish the council with the .basis of his claim.■•'.-' ' ','■'■

'acquiring .a-catchment area was confirmed. ■ ■'■ . . Mr.; A., Carver - wrote resigning'his position" as a' councillor for' the Kaiwarra. Ward.. The Mayor ,sa}d the ordinary steps would be'taken to.fill the vacancy. "Accounts amounting -.to £181' lis.' 6d. were passed.for payment. ..--..,.. ': Mr. Marshall's tender for the removal of rubbish from Kaiwarra at 12s. 6d. a week, and . his tender for. .clearing the footpaths' and channels' fortnightly at tho'same place for 6s. 3d. were accepted.;
