TARIFF REFORM.

■ . *. ._ ■ AND OLD AGE PENSIONS. By TelczTapn-Prem Assoolatlon-CoDyrlirhl (Reo. April 12, 11.15 pjn.) London, April 12. In the House of Lords, Lord Hamilton of Dalzell, replying on behalf of tho Government to a question by Lord Stanhopo (Unionist), detailed Australia's and Now Zealand's Customs regime and old age pensions. Lord Stanhope then criticised what he described as the Lord Advocate's Ureisms regarding tho possibility of duties on imports not meeting the expenditure on old age pensions. [During the election compaign. the Lord Advocate for Scotland, Mr. Alex. Ure, expressed the opinion that there was some ground for doubting whether, if the Unionists wero returned to power, tariff reform finance would be equal to the continuance of old age pensions. Mr. Ure was thereupon fiercely attacked by Unionist leaders, with the object, presumably, of dispelling the doubt raised by Mr. Ure. Lord Stanhope now cites colonial tariffs and pensions.]
