Submarine eruptions' have been .occur* ; ring, lately in tlie vicinity of Kawliia, at a'point between Albatross Point and.- - Gannet Island. About five! have now/ occurred, and those who have witnessed ■-.- them state that the water was thrown -! iip as high as the mast of a schooner. ■••; 'That the disturbance is considerable is :i. shown by the fact.that the beach for .-. about 12 miles in length :is covered t with red and black-mud and deep-sea.' shells after each eruption; added to .'.. which the smell of sulphur is un.>'' pleasantly strong. Captain Liddle, wljo > lives three miles away, and, is an in-'• valid; is able to tell by . the strong • smell.of. sulphur when there has .been.•(. another eruption.
