Sir,—You are probably aware' "of ."ths, following notice exhibited in our tranV cars:. ."Time-tables on" silo by the conductors." 'Application to six 'successiveconductors failed to procure ■ one, but elicited the information ' that' they,"'.the conductors, have to pay for all. timetables, they take from the office, and in the event of their remaining unsold and having become soiled, they have to stand tha .loss. The office refuse to take back any time-tables once, sold tea conductor/The natural result is the conductors will not buy them; .and no doubt many, bev sides myself, have wondered ; why com.' pliance with 'the advertisement is fruifci less. Surely such a system is.unjust to' the conductors, and' useless to the public. Apologising for trespassing on .your space,—l'am, etc., • ■<- .'■ ■'..'- .COMMON. SENSE.March 31. . , ;• ;. . [The reply of the City Council's Tramway Department to these statements '.is that conductors. are compelled to , pur-, chase time-tables for sale,'but tlfty arepurchased out of the corporation's money, given. tothe conductor every morning'to* serve 'as change. The department does not refuse to take back- time-tables whichmay be soiled or unsold.. The demand ; for the first issue of. time-tables was 60 great that they were:.all sold out in ai short time, and a second.issue had to be printed. If difficulty has been experienced in obtaining time-fables fromebni ductors the explanation must be, accord* - ing to the department, either that application was made between the'dates o{: the or that conductors .have ;. been approached who hare sold out, and failed at once to replenish their stockj
