CUSTOMS RETURNS.
AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, April 1. The Customs returns for the port of Auckland for March show that the not duties collected amounted to £69,071 6s. 7d., and surtax £1549 ISs. 4d., compared with £50,078 15s. 3d. for the corresponding month of last year, being an increase of nearly £10,000. The beer duty amounted to £2347 2s. 7d., as against £2638, a decrease of about £281. The export returns indicate steady development of trade. The majority of the lines show substantial increases, and in other lines the average is i well maintained, except in frozen meats, the export of which was affected by the slaughtermen's.strike. Wool advanced to the phenomenal extent of over £138,000. There was an increase of some ' £34,000 in cheese, and £10,000 increases aie shown in butter and kauri gum; . NEW PLYMOUTH. The Customs revenue of New Plymouth in March was £4150, against £3691 last' March. , The total for the twelve months was £43,095, against £41,012 the previous year.
