THE GIFT BATS.
GO TO SIMS AND BRIOE. It will ;be remembered thai' Messrs. Aloocks and Company presented two bats as trophies in connection with th<v. contest.' One" was to go to the Now* Zealand bowler who in Armstrong's opinion had acquitted himself best. After the match, Armstrong intimated that he had not himself remained long enough at the ■ wickets to enable him to judge, so he had decided to consult tho other members of his team on the subject.- The result of the conference was that the bat was awarded to Brice, whose trundling against the wind on the first day was the subject of so much commendation. In regard to the other bat, it -was to be awarded to the New Zealand player making the highest aggregate during tho match. This trophy fell to Sims, whose grand total was 75—0n0 greater than that obtained by Reese, who, however, gained tho best average, as he was "not out" in the first innings.
