NUMBER OF THEFT CHARGES.' (Before Mr. W. R. Haselden, S.M.) Henry Charles Adolphus Williamson, alias Paul Henry Morcier,-was charged with:tho.theft of £3 155., at Wellington on- November .B,' the. property of James Poole Goodman. Accused pleaded guilty. He was also further charged with obtaining £6-by means of false pretences from John Hurley at Palmerston. North on June 18, 11)08. Chief Hetective Broberg stated .that other charges were to be laid, and accused was accordingly remanded, till April 8. Alfred Burnicle, on-a charge of theft of £1, the proporty of A. B. Suckling, was remanded to, appear on Friday next.
Frank Kerwin was also remanded till the same date on a charge of the theft of an oilcoat,. valued at>£l Is., the property of Alfred Leach.. Ernest. Philip Berlyn, appearing on remand, .and charged with failing to account for £36, the property of Fred-' erick Herbert Labatt, was further remanded to appear at Christehurch today. BREACH OF THE PEACE. Claude William Illingworth and Frank Lindblom pleaded guilty to a charge of causing a breach ' of the peace in Courtenay Place on Saturday night. Accused Illingworth stated that tho other accused kissed a little girl, and' the girl commenced crying. On his remonstrating with Lindblom, blows were struck, w'ith the result that a free fight ensued. Both accused were convicted and discharged. :, ..... , STREET BRAWL. As tho outcome of a street -brawl outside the Royal Oak Hotel on Saturday evening, Walter Hatful was fined £1 for using- obscene language,' and Walter Donnelly and James Gilooly were also fined £1 for inciting Charles Henry Latham to resist the police. The last-named was fined £1 for assaulting a constable. ... OTHER CASES. Tho case against William Baker, charged with being a rogue and vagabond, in that lie was found sleeping on Sunday night in a shed in ' Farish Street, was dismissed. It appeared from the evidence that he arrived from Christchurqh on the previous day, and having no means took refuge as stated, but without criminal intent. On charges of drunkenness, fines wore imposed on Elizabeth Kempton (10s., or 48 hours), Charles Harvey (205., or seven days' imprisonment), James Collingwood (10s., or 48 hours), Robert Kinnaird (55., or 24. hours), Michael Shanahan (os., or 24 hours), and John Boylo (os., or 24 hours)—nil with previous convictions. The last-named was also fined £2, with the option of 14 clays' imprisonment, on a charge of using obscene language. A number of , first-offending inebriates were also con- , victed. William Morrison and Hugh 'Nelson . Campbell, two respectably dressed i young men, were each fined £1 for oom- , mittiug a nuisance in Harbour Street.
