SOME COMPENSATION CASES,

On the application of Mr. J. W. Macdonald, solicitor to the Public Trust Office, the Arbitration Court, in ' Chambers, made orders apportioning compensation moneys held by the Public Trust tee as personal representative of the following deceased persons:— (1) Wm. Geo. Wilson, late of Napier, .stevedore, killed on July 10, 1909; compensation received, .£351 17s. Gd.: Onethird to widow, Mary Wilson, two-thirds lor'children, Mary and William. (2) Thomas Wilfred Frost, late of Whaknpuaka, labourer, killed December 2, 1909; compensation received, .£327 12s • One-third to widow, two-thirds to Zito Delia Frost and Thoniasina Sheila Margaret Frost, infant dejondents. (3) John Taylor, late of Southbrook, porter, killed October 27, 1909; compensation received, ,£390: .£2OO to widow, remainder for Helen Jane Taylor, infant dependent. (1)' William Erskine Dicks, late of Otira, miner, killed October 12, 1909; compensation received, .£500: One-third to widow, two-thirds to Rubina Stewart Dicks, an infant dependent. (5) Vincent Norman Jackson, Into of Whangamomona, road inspector, killed May 24, 1909; compensation received, ■£500; one-third to widow, two-thirds to infant dependents, Benjamin Wardell and Norma Lucy. " (6) Charles Brian, late of Wellington, ganger, died December 28, 1909; compensation received, .£500: One-third to widow, two-thirds for William Geo. Albert Jack and Edward Seddon Brian, declared infant dependents. (7) John Cumnrings, late of Pelone, platelayer, killed July 17, 1909; compen-

sation received, ,£421: Payment of .£lO to Hannah Cummings confirmed, balance to bo held Sor Nellie and Annie Cummings, infant dependents. (8) James Moylo, lato'' of Invorcargill, labourer, killed January 17, 1910; compensation received, .£468: Whole 6Um to oo applied as a common fund_ for the maintenance and benefit of widow and children, as Public Trustee in his discretion thinks proper. All infants' shares were in all cases to be held by the Public Trustee and applied as he thinks fit for the benefit of the infants concerned, leave being given in all cases for the Public Trustee to apply ex parte for advice and direction.

ELECTRICAL WORKERS' AWARD. An interpretation, asked for by the Inspector of .Awards, was given yesterday by Mr. Justice Sim, in regard to Clause 9 of the Wellington Electrical Workers' Award, dated April 9, 1908. Tho clause stated that the proportion of assistants shall bo one to every journeyman or working employer. Every, assistant, after having worked not less than three years at the trade, shall be deemed to be an improver. ... The following questions were submitted by the Inspector of Awards:—(l) Does an improver count as an assistant in computing tho proportion of assistants? (2) Caii more than one improver be employed where two' or more journeymen are employed? ■ : And (3) does '. a, working employer count as a. journeyman in-order to determine whether, an improver may be employed?. The answers supplied by the Judge wcrei-(l) No. (2) Yes; there is no limit to the number of improvers who may be employed where two journeymen are employed. (3) Yes. '
