Now that New Zealand is experimenting with a few trial shipments of frozen pork, it is worth while noting that, pigs arc. unusually Scarce in Great Britain at. present. ' An. English ."agricultural ■ correspondent states that while-mutton has been declining hi value until,the feeders' profit' has almost vanished,' pork has been;declining n.value until the feeders' have- been suggested as -. responsible ■ for the greatly-improved position taken by fat pigs in the markets .of tho Old Country; but the most obvious as the serious reductiai in the number, now fed compared with former -years.-"It. is- maintained by, some- that the falling-off in supplies witnessed during the last twenty years or so-.has been mainly caused by the stricter regulations -of the ' Public Health authorities, which, they assort, have practically -ibanishod pigs from' the smaller towns "and villages. The present remarkable ' prices—four-stone porkers bringing 10s. a-stone, and the large sorts ietehing tho price of a medium-sized bullock—arc, however, again turning the minds of the farmers to tho possibilities ot the pig. as, a revenue-producing investment, and it'is probable,.tho correspondent adds,'-.that the supply for the fat .market will-, ere long be considerably increased; .'.The. -New.
