Auckland, January 80.' •: The Auckland Anniversary Regatta; was held; yesterday ■,in tho most depressing circumstances, rain ' falling, incessantly throughout .the day. /Tho yacht racing .was'.-exceptionally-good)- a fresh north: east twiner being. favourable to good .sailing. A. feature of tho day was-the man-o'-warsmen'events, tho "members of/the' crews, of H.M.S.: Challenger and Pegasus taking part. The results of;.the principal races were-as follow :—-• / Trading vessels/all-comers iMoonah, 1; Lizetto, 2; Vindex,.3. ■'••• Trading cutters, all-comers: .Stag, 1; ,Tay, 2; Lee,/3.v..-' .' -..' ~ - Trading; vessels, -under 23 tons: Dominion, 1; Bee, 2; Nor'-west, 3. yacht race: Ilex, 1; 'Heartsease, 2; - Thctis,r3. ■■ Boiia-fide c'ruisinK yachts: Ngahau,' 1; Windward, 2; Victory,. 3.....' ;■".'■. Tho other events,. which ihcludcd keel and centreboard sailing races, and man-o'-war boat races (sailing and pulling), were keenly contested.; Owing to tho inclement weather, tho side shows'wero not held., Quito a.'. number of accidents occurred durjng the day, but beyond damago to goar nothing serious happened.
