His Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford), and Councillors J. Brodie. N. Bell, H. M'Leod, J; Muir,:Bowie, and-M'Clel-land were present at a meeting of the Aliramar Borough ;Council, held last evening. • ' With reference to the weekly halfholiday "question, raised by Councillor Bowie, the Mayor: sUted'that from inquiries made in previous years the storekeepers were all in favour 'of Wednesdays. The people always looked for" a little extra business at the week-end, , and thoro was no reason; why : the; day -on which' the half-holiday, should be ..observed should be altered. He did not think Miramaf's vote' would make much difference in any'case. A letter was received . from'. Mr. ,W. A. Dutch, recommending the. council' to purchase \a chemical fire engine. The City wrote stating that he would be pleased to give publicity to Miramar's tramway returns. The Mayor presented a comparative retur.n 'of the Christmas' and .Kew Year month of tho last three years, showing the debit or credit on the running of tho cars for the four weeks ending January 4. , The; applications of : the Baptist and Congregational Sunday Schools, for' the use of Seatoun: Park for picnic purposes ,granted. * -' The Publio. Works Department' wrote asking the council; if it would issue special coupon tickets: for use of Government employees-over the lines within the borough, as is : done: , within , the'city.
