Farther negotiations between the Transvaal Government and the Indian residonts (represented by Mr. Ghandi, an Indian solicitor) have failed to settle tho immigration problem. General Smuts, Colonial Secr6tary of the Transvaal, deolines to grant Indians equality in the matter of immigration. Ho is willing to allow a limited number tho right of permanent ' residenceMr. Ghandi replies that tho agitation will continue on a bigger scale than ever.
