' Last ■' Saturday the Thorndon Dinghy Club opened its . season' with' a race for Mr. M. .Laing's trophy.:', A-strong southerly was'blow- ■ :ing in tho,afternoon, two of tho dinghies having to reef. The boats started off. in this order • with the. following handicaps'.—Blowfly, 2min.; Vera, 3min.; Rona,- Sinin.; ■ and Zel, scratch! ■ The. Bona, held the lead from the start, and was followed by the. Vera, Blowfly, and ■ Zel. The boats had to.do a good bit of manoeuvring at Oriental Bay, so as .to get. round. the buoy ■ which .was.there. The boats finished'in the fellowine order:—Zel, 1, securing Mr. Laing's trophy; Rona, 2; Blowfly, 3; and Vera, last.
