Collector of Customs at Now York, ie indicting a hundred importers, including thirty fashionable dressmakers. . Detectives traced two hundred trunks containing French millinery and lingerie, on which thero should have been ipaid X 400.000, but which escapcd duty thrbngh being left in tho Customs until the consignors demanded them. Mr. Loob believes the Treasury lost two mil lions sterling in recent years by- this kind of fraud alone. ' 1 Twenty officials of the weighing department have heen indicted for accepting bribes in connection with the importation of produce.
