Buxton and Company and Balmo, and Company offered 6790 baleß, of.-.which 5544 wore New Zealand, very inferior selections. There was a crowded .attendance and excited competition from all quarters, especially on the part of the American buyers, who are freely taking greasy_ crossbreds. > Compared with tho closing rates of the July sales, merinos advanced 10 per ct""tiun; and crossbreds 15.per centum. •■■•-.■ BROKERS' PRIVATE . CABLES. ■•' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date September 21:—"Wool sales; There was full attendance, at tho opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home,. Continental,' and Ameri> can buyers being active., The opening catalogues . wero fairly representative. As compared with last Bales' closing rates, prices are about 5 per cent, to 75 per cent, higher for Merinos, and about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher for. crossbredß.' . ■
The Department of Industries and Commerce has received tho following: cable from' the High Commissioner, dated London, September 21!— The wool sales have commenced. There is a very brisk demand, and great competition on the part of American and Continental buyers. Supplica will be moderate. Market had advanced fully one penny on average closing prices last sale
The United farmers' 00-opcrative Association, Ltd., has received the following cablegram from their London agents, under date September 21:— "The fifth aeries of wool. Bales were held to-day. There was a good attendance and strong competition. . Fine crossbred advanced 5 per cent./ medium crossbred 15 per cent;, coarse crossbred 10 per cent, to 15 per cent.,, as compared with tho closing rates of'the previous sale." Messrs. Araham and Williams. Limited, have received the following .cable from London7-un-der date September' 21:—The sales have opened with strong competition, and a large attendance of buyers representing Home, American, and Continental houses. There is an active demand by all branches of the trade, and Americans aro operating freely.. Tho; market for :all' wool is firm. Fine crossbred -, and merinos are 10 per cent., medium crossbred 15 per cent., coarse crossbred. 12i per cent., and slipe 10 per cont. to 15 per cent.. higher than was -the case at tho closo of the laat sales:

Sanderson, Murray; and Co!, dated September 21:—The aalea have opened with a large attendance of buyers and good competition, prices showing an advance of from 10 to 15 per cent. Tho selection of merino wool offered!, ia noor. Messrs. Levin and, Co.. Ltd., have received the following cable from their London ngentß. the National Jlortgago'and AgcncyiOo. of New Zealand, Limited, dated London. September • 21:— "Tho wool sales havo opened. Merinos and flno crossbreds show an' advance. :as' compared with the closing rates of last-sales of 10 per cent.; medium and coarse crossbred 15 per cent. Americans, and buyera generally arc, operating freely. The selection is poor, and'consists mainly of slipe wools."
