A RARE CEREMONY.
THE CONSECRATION IN ST. PAUL'S. (By Telenraph.-Press AMoelalloo.-OopyrlEtat.l : London, August 25. ' The consecration of ;Dr. Wright as Archbishop of Sydney yestenday was the first con-, secration in St. Paul's Cathedral to an archbishopric since the Reformation. The Archbishop consecratcd last in Old St., Paul's was Simon Islip in 1349. [The fact that so few consecrations to archbishoprics have taken place in St. Paul's is largely accounted for by the fact that there are only tn;o archbishoprics in England, and the Archbishops of Canterbury would naturally, as a rule, "'be consecrated ; in Canterbury Cathedral, and the Arohbishbps of' York in York Minster. Then, again,' these positions are generally filled bv the, translation of other bishops, in which, case consecration is not necessary, enthronement only taking place. As regards the colonies, it is only of fate years that archbishoprics have been instituted, and in the oase of New Zealand the consecration of Anglican bishops must take place within the Dominion.] ■
