MILK FEVER IN DAIRY COWS.
Copy of letter from "Wanganui Chronicle," December 22,' 1904:—"Sir,—Ab it may prove useful to other-dairy ■ farmers" I send you the following: On the 10th instant one of my best cows calved, her third calf. On tho morning of the 13th she Rave me a three-gallon bucket full of ■ milk. :and : looked tip-top. At 3 o'clock that evening, coming home from the paddock, I noticed her body tucked up, and hindquarters stiff. I tried to■ milk her, but the milk was gone. As the above were indications of milk fever, I gave her a dose of Skyes's Drench, and r remembering to have read that oxygen pumped into the udder was a remedy, 1 got a bicycle pump and with the part that -fits in the rubber tyro of the, bike added, 1 pumped the fourquarters of the udder, full of air. Wo had to support her in tho bail while doing this. When wo left hc.r out she staggered a few yards and fell down. About twenty minutes afterwards, however, to my. surprise she was on her feet again, and much better. By 9 o'clock that night she was resting comfortably. Next morning at 4.30 o'clock she was up and feeding. That evening I got 151b. of milk from* her, and sbo is now back to her usual flow of milk, and as well as ever she was. I have now had 18 years' dairy farming; and have seen cows die, and cows recover in time, but in this instance tho quick recovery was simply marvellous. —I am, etc., J. W. M'La'rin, Waverley, December 18, 1904."' Use only Skyes's Drench, because it is the best. Price Is. 6d. packet or 16s. by the down, Better buy it by tho dozen. lAYrite.for Boaklot. W
