A man named Robert M'Calluni, 33 years of age, employed in connection with -dredging operations on v thoPittko, foil off the steamship' Albany this morning and was drowned. Deceased was a native of Scotland, ; and had just sent money Home to bring out his wife and two children to this country. So far the body has not been recovered. DEATH BY DROWNING.. ..[."' .■.''• Christchurch, August 2p. An inquest was held, to-day on tho bodyof Lewis .-Albert Elerig, found in the River Avon yesterday. A verdict of death by drowning was returned, thero being no'evidence to show how he got into the water. Tho lato Mr, Elerig was well known' throughouj tho Dominion in years gone by 'as a traveller for'the . firm, of Skc'lton,/ FrosfcicU and Co., with which ,hb has. been connected for a very .long' tiriio. . It is the custom of inmates to have a bath on Fridays, and deceased in-' formed a nurse at 2.30. that ho would have his'bath' at 8 p.m.,' but, half an'hour later, -lie was found in the bath quite dead, the door having to ; be forced open..- Deceased had been a sufferer frota, cancer.
