A portion of the Te.Akau Block, which w.aß purchased from the Natives'by the Government'n year or two ago, will be open for selection under the optional system at Auckland and Ngaruawahia on October IX. This part of the block, which has been roa'ded by .the Lands Department, consists of some 14,000 acres, of some of the best laud in. the block. There have already been a large num- ; ber of.inquiries!in regard tb it, 'and a record ■ apphoation-list-is expected. . ; . •.■■ ■■■; ; ,-i L The Lands Department have lately entered , into negotiations for the purchase' of further ..portions of the'Te:Akau Block; situated ; to the north and south of the.portion already purchaseß,, that, to'the/iiorth being the pro-: ipertylof the Ngatitahinga tribe, whilst 1 that to the south is owned by the Tainui'tribe Mr. Patterson, Chief Accountant, of, the Lands'pepartment, is' now in the district in' connection with the purchase of this land', ' which is not yet concluded. A sittinß of the Native Land Court will be-held at Ngania- ; ,n-ahia on September 28 for the purpose of dealing with tho Maetangi Block, consisting ,of; some 45,000 acres., About , half a dozen r Natives of the Waikato.and Ngatimaniapoto . tribes are interested'in the 1 block.'"'
