THE GOVERNOR'S CARRIAGE.
Notwithstanding the fact that, the -Governor's new and palatial railway carriage Was only sent out from the Petonc Workshops about six, or. seven weeks ago, it has come back to tho shops again for extensive alterations and additions. The car is very luxuriously furnished, and.it is estimated:to havo cost, about £2600 to complete, whorc'aa the ordinary.' first-class , cairiago only entails an expenditure of about £1150. It has now been indoors for about a week. One of the alterations is to the fireplace hearth. It is stated that ; objection was taken to tho design of the tiles, and that therefore an alteration had to bo made. The change called for a good deal of work, as two , nion were kept busily employed for about three days on this alteration altme. Various additions were also attended to at the same time, and improvements in.the way of additional brass fixings and brackets have been effected. The. total number of men engaged at making ; these alterations was about a ddzen—upholsterers, electricians, • carpenters, "lifters," etc. l lt would seem, therefore, that the labour.alone would cost.between £45 and £50 at least.
