AUSTRALIA BEATS MAORIS AFTER KEEN STRUGGLE, , . (Reo. August 15,' 5.5 p.m.) Brisbane, August 14. Tho weather was fino for tho foutball match (League rules), Maoris v. Australia, and, 8000 were present. Australia won by 16 points to 13, after a fine game. Play in the first half was evon, tho score ftl half-time being: Australia, 11 points; Maoris, 10 points. For tho .visitors, Wharepapa and Rukutai secured tries, the former converting both, In the second spell, the Maoris were tho attackers, tho Australians showing stubborn defence. Tho homo team was tho fiiat to score, Woodhead getting a try, which Brackenrig convorted. Tho Maoris then made the paoo terrific, tackling strenuously, and evontually Tuki got over. Tho shot at goal failed. Enthusiasm was intensb, and a fierce struggle continued to the call of-, time; but without'either side increasing its score. The Australians thus won by 3 points.
