Palmerston, August 11. Nominations for officers of the Mauawato Racing Cljib show that there will bp an eleption for president for the first time for four years, Mr. p. Biiick, M,P.,' contesting the 'hpnoiir, ivith tho present holder) Mr. 11. 3. . Abraham. Mossrs. J. Ajan. Strang, and o.' A. Lpughnan, have been elected vice-presi-dents, unopposed., Mr. C. Louisson was also returned as treasurer. Vacancies on. the committee are being competed for by Messrs. D. l'ringle, 11. Lloyd, H. M. Simmonds, H. t}. 'ijoorb, 11. Gillies, and Dr. Wilson. Mrs. Si\san Hart, of Ashliirrst, another etjrly pioneer, died tins mornjug, Deceased was aged fl. . , \ Mr. ■ Alex M'Minn, sen., a well-known Wairarapa journalist, is at present recovering from illness, and is showing signs pf returning health. ,• Robert: Fraser, of Otaki, and Martin Johansen, publican, also of Otaki, were ad- '' judged bankrupts this morning. : The. Polico Commission sits at Palmerstoa' on Saturday, Record entries in every event have already been received for,the ladies'.golf championship meoting,'which opens next Wednesday.
