Burglaries ,in Auokland ' are . becoming rathor serious,' five city stores : and : offices having been boldly entered during as many days.. Tho last caso is that of Messrs. John Co., merchants. Fort Street, whoW store is situated near tne. printing offico of Messrs. Abel, Dykes, and Co. Apparently, . on Monday evening, having been disappointed with : ; the result .ofutheir attempt to dynamite the safe of the latter-firm, the pracks- • nien'-proceeded to the roof of' Messrs. Reid's promises. Removing a small skylight or trapdoor? on the Fort' Street frontage, they de« scended to the ground floor, where they broke their way into the front office. ■ they found , that the firm's valuables ' were kept, in four . iron safes. They . commenced operations, on-the' largest one, and removed the cover to the keyhole, but finding an inner- slide in the keyhole, which prevented the/insertion' of : the. dynamite, it is presumed that they reserved their "energies for .: another occasion.' .They .broke open sundry packages, and helped themselves to .ohoColates, sardines, and cigarettes, taking their departure with nothing more.
