Considerable surprise, was felt recently when tho Hon. Charles Lister, only son of Lord Ribblesdale, was reported as addressing a meeting of the Independent Labour Party at Rochdale in company with Mr. Victor Graysou, and giviug utterance to Socialistic .sentiments. Tho speaker said that he hoped to livo to seo tho day whon- the aristocrats would bo seeu parading tho streets of London with a banner bearing- the inscription:, "Curse your charity; wo want work." Afterwards he.sent a note to tho nowspaper reporters requesting them not to mention his speech. Later they wore -.verbally threatened with prosecution if they published his romarks. The hoax was not : discovered till some timo later, when tho real Mr. Lister wroto to tho press stating that; ho'must have bcon successfully impersonated, and disclaimed all responsibility for the sentiments ascribed to him,.—"Standard of Empire,"
