Lacrosse,may bo said to-be'the "baby" in point of years of tho sports ' followed in "Wellington, it is not by any means a -weakling, avid tho 300 odd spectators : watched at the Basin Reserve..; on ..Saturday, when Auokland met Wellington,, were treated to'.be an exhibition of play,that was generally I fast, sometimes scientific, and always interesting'. The Hon, Dr. Findlay and the Hon. A. E. Guinness were among the spectators. Two years ago Auckland met and defeated Welling; ton somewhat disastrously, but this year, although- .Wellington were - again thfe : losers, they, did not allow their • opponents to retain the palm without a struggle. 'Auckland,- who had.muoli-the bettervof the first four spells, played with good combination, and shot accurately. , Two scores were secored by Borrodale, a New South Wales representative player, : three -by Philson, and one by Firth. Montgomery scored for Welling.'ton.'.At the end of the second spell, the northeners had a lead of 7 to 4, Eobertson, Pama, and Montgomery having put on goals for Wellington,, and Philson having added an additional : point to Auckland's total. Soon after half-time, Borrodale scored again twice, and Philson once. . Towards the end of the game Wellington came to the fore with better staying power, and kept almost constantly on the attack. Hudson and Montgomery each Ecored, but Auckland still retained the lead, the game ending! Auokland 10, Wellington 6. Mr. M. A. M'Donnell was the referee. i ■'■
