' THE "OPEN DOOR" POLICY. ■■/. Tho annual meeting of tho:Wellington Bowling Club, Ltd.; was held • in tho pavilion last evening, and was attended by' about 100 members. Mr. W.T.Grundy (president) occupied ;tho chair. . ■ • ' . .-.: .-■■.." 'The chairman, in moving the adoption of the. report and balance-sheet (already .published), said that members would regret their lack of success in the interclub matches last season. Tho only honours they'still held were the Jjdwin-Feathers. This was,not.very creditable to the olub, and ho considered that the cause was easily ascertainable. : Members were loth to_ sacrifice themselves in. the interests' of the club. The overdraft, w.hich had been £m Us. at the end of the prerious year, had been reduced by. ,£319 Us.. 9(L, and now stood at J2S7 us. .3d.. Mr. J. D. Sievwright'eocbnded the motion, deploring the possibility that all .but eight members, oi the club would have to sit on the bank and watch the rioxt tournament. ■ The Chairman explained that tho pairs and singles wero open to' everyone,, and they, wei-e played all the time the links wore being; contested. Auckland clubs had all rejoined the Association (excepting the Mount Eden-Club, which had referred the matter to its annual meeting).. They had air affirmed the principle ofi raising the,'entrance fee.from 2s.'6a. to 12s. 6d: Down south they had >no more entries in the rink competitions than; wore seen in < the N.B.A. - tournaments. ... . ; •-.■'■ ■■'■•' •'';'. ..' • The motion was carried on the voices, and the result was: announced" amid cheers.' Two other resolutions, moved by Sir. N. W. Bell and Mr. S. S. BrownJ were carried t— (1) "That the club's delegates to the' Wellington Centre be requested to move-that'a- meeting of_ all bowlers under the centre'e jurisdiction shall be held, at an early date, for the purpose of discussing the conduct of tournaments by tho 'Northern Bowling Association," and (2) "That it be a recommendation .to the , directors that' , the , junior players ehould be : requested, at the beginning of each season, to appoint two'representatives to-act with a member of-the match committee in the selection'of teams for junior- fixtures." . . Votes: of thanks were accorded the retiring officers and the chairman.- ...- ■. •■
