CIVIL SERVICE CADETS.
: Sir, —Two boys attended the same school at the same time—call them A and B. In December, 1907, they both passed the . Civil Service Junior : Examination ■ in .-the Credit List, , but A was four.months short of 15 years at time of passings B seven months, younger. In August, 1908, A is officially advised that ho cannot succeed to a cadetship because he was four months too-young when he. passed, but by that datofl has been a cadet for months. A was further advised that if. he still desired to acquiro a cadotship, he most present himeelf for examination at end of' 1908,; and , again pass. But the hurdle (political hurdle, as it seemed to his parents) looked top big, so ho. did not sit again for examination. Do you note that had A sat in December, 1908, B would at that date have been a cadet for nearly a year, although even then only one montW over the required- age for passing, as, according to the regulations, ho was-eleven: months too young (to succeed to a cadetship) when he 'passed in 1907..
