FOOTBALL IN WELLINGTON.
Sir, —Last Saturday's football .match PoneUo points out another woakness in tnt> management of oar union. Thoro, have been certain men playing junior, football wno, at. the start of tbo season, were objected ito by other clubs. The union ovorriuod.tho objection, and now we find them, after the junior championship is practically decided,' playing for'Eoheke, strengthening a senior team. .Many old players consider that Tannerhill, one Vof -these men, played the bost forward.gamo on tho ground, and this only goes to prove how roal tho objection of the junior players was. Wo a)l know that Ponoko won.tho game, and L don't, think, tliero are many other'footballers hero envy them tho honour under such circumstances. Caeoa like these help to belittle
our national sport in the eyes of the public, and wore it to take place at a raco meetiug. it would moot with wholosalo disapproval. Then, why should it not do so in. football? In past years the same club had the reputation of sailing near the wind, and after this that reputation will not be lost. I am fully aware that the Rugby Union are powerless in this matter, but,tho delegates should not. forget the circum'stanco, and, when tho time comes, pass a by-law to stop its recurrence.—l am, etc., , TED WILSON.
