THE DREADNOUGHT OFFER. MR. HICC ENTERS A PROTEST. Members of the Legislative Council.mot at 10.30 a.m. yesterdayi The Hon. J. JIIGG gaye notice that tomorrow he would movo'as follows:—"That this Council disapproves of tho offer to tho British Government of a fnlly-cquippod battleship of the Dreadnought type—tivo if necessary—mado by tho "Government of New Zealand for the following reasons: (1) That, it is unjuslifiablo extravagance. (2) That so long we are ,in debt and depending on borrowed money'for the development of our own country; it is-an immoral act.- (3) That we bcoorao ridiculous when it is necessary for v us to asli from those to whom we moke the gift of a loan of the money necessary to pay for it,. (4) That Great Britain can well afforu to pay for all the battleships that she i lequires. (6) That tho proposal is the out-, come of a newspaper scare, organised for i unworthy motives." Tho ATTORNEY-GENERAL (Dr. Findlay) I lrsoved, without, notice, *that at its rising tho Counoil adjourn until 10.30 next day.
