INDIGNATION MEETING.
i Srr>—There is one mistake which those who have the control or 'management of this, important meeting are making; that is, in not. inviting three or four influential men, representing different classes of the communityi to give addrcasos supporting the views of the local members of Parliament, who are expected to speak, but who will have opportunities afforded them of airing their views, and, what is still better, of re, cording their votes in "smother place." The adoption of my suggestion would haw, to my mind, a more telling effect, and carry greater influence than the course that is at present, intended. ' While 1 have my pen in hand, there' is another!subject I should just like, to touch on— the. Civil Service retrenchment scheme" ""about which' there appears to be so many difficulties; in not bearing too hardly on individuals. Why not adopt the coarse pursued by Sir Harry Atkinson, when he found retrenchment necessary, and deduct .10 per cent, .from all salaries, Ministers and M.P.'s included; for the six months, so that the winter would be , passed, and there would be time:to make the necessary rearrangement? —I am, etc., : _■.-•, NEMO.
